When a person feels that the burdens of living start to control his life he will go one of two directions: turn to destructive distractions or will try to find solace in spirituality. Destructive distractions can include drugs, alcohol, even sex and at worst suicide. When life gets really tough and the person feels there is no way out of the maya of life, the mind has taken over. At this point the mind is actually a cancer, a self-destructive cancer, which will slowly eat away at the person's joy and sanity. Why does a person turn to drugs or alcohol?
The following is Sevara’s response to a Hindu man justifying Israel’s use of force against Palestinians. The gentleman states “Youngsters hurl rocks and glass bottles at Israeli soldier or policeman. But the moment the Israeli shoots a bullet into the air, they flee like chickens and shout "We are being oppressed!" They ought to learn that people shouldn't throw stones at armed men unless they are wearing bullet proof vests (or have a death wish).”
The following is Sevara’s response to a woman’s message in which she feels it is better to trust few people.
Have you ever thought about your center? Did you know that you have one? Stop and feel for a moment...try and sense where yours is. There is only one true center through which we will feel grounded, blissful, connected, balanced, and sane. But before we get to that center, let's discuss the other centers.
It seems these days everyone is in a rush... in a hurry to get somewhere or to get something done. When you are in a hurry you lose your sense of inner peace and with that comes increased stress on the nervous system which makes your mind reactive. That's basically what stress is and it is literally an epidemic in our society. I call it an epidemic because it is indeed contagious. When you're stressed, those around you become stressed. If you are on a regular basis a stressed-out parent, your children will generally grow up to be stressed. But the good news is that a stress can be unlearned.
Guru means “that which brings dark to light”. You are this. Within you is all the wisdom you will ever need. Just as a drop of the ocean contains the entire sea, when you were born you were born with all the wisdom of the Universe in every cell of your body. Have you ever - ever - told a lie and not known you were lying? Have you ever stolen something and not known you were stealing?
Note: this was a response to a female who was fearful about expressing her sexuality.
So you enjoy sex, so what?! It is the very attempt to repress sex that is causing your problem. Let go of the guilt, let go of the conditioning that has lead you to fear it, and any negative past experiences that may be lingering. Re-think sex as beautiful. Perhaps due to the repression it has become somewhat “perverted” and thus it makes you feel like your thoughts are “dirty”. But if you get back to the purity of sex you will drop the guilt.
